What are Mining Pools?

Bitcoin mining pools allow individual miners to combine their computing power (hashrate) to increase their chances of solving blocks and earning rewards on the Bitcoin network. The block reward and fees are then distributed proportionally among participants based on their contributed hashrate.

Why Market Share & Empty Blocks Matter

Concentration of hashrate in a few pools can present centralization risks. Monitoring pool share helps assess network security. Additionally, empty blocks are blocks with no transactions besides the coinbase block; they occur when a pool mines before fully downloading the previous block's tx state, and are tracked for network audit purposes.
